Charles Jumbe is a Director of the Centre for Independent Evaluations and a Professor of Economics at the Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) under the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). He holds a PhD in Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway). Before joining the University in 1996, he worked as an Economist in the Department of Economic Planning and Development, Office of the President and Cabinet (1990-1993), Ministry of Energy and Mining (1993-1996) and Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (1995- 1996). He has more than 20 years of research experience, he has worked on a wide range of areas. He has conducted baseline, mid-term and impact evaluation (end of project) for various organizations. He has specific passion for impact evaluation of development interventions using both qualitative and quantitative techniques. He was a co-recipient of the 2017 Bruce Gardner Memorial Prize for Applied Policy Analysis on Farm Input Subsidy Work in Sub-Saharan Africa by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association based in United States of America. He has published scholarly articles in several international journals such as Food Policy, Energy Economics, Biomass and Bioenergy, Land Economics, Ecological Economics, Renewable Energy, Energy Policy, and many more.
