Takunda J Chirau is a Deputy Director at the Centre for Learning on Evaluation and results Anglophone Africa – University of the Witwatersrand (CLEAR AA). Takunda is also a Board Member for the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association (SAMEA). Takunda is leading and managing the CLEAR AA Country Programmes, ensuring progressive scaling up of implementation across Anglophone African countries as part of the Centre’s Regionalisation Strategy. He is responsible for establishing and nurturing partnerships for strengthening M&E systems and or evaluation systems. Taku led and managed the undertaking of MESAs in Liberia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Lesotho and Uganda as well as the establishment of Monitoring and Evaluation Capacity Strengthening Strategy and Plan. He had conducted many M&E capacity strengthening exercises with countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Lesotho, Zambia, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, and Tanzania to mention a few. Taku has led development of National M&E Policy (in Lesotho and Namibia), Evaluation Guidelines (Kenya and Lesotho), Evaluation Plan (in Botswana). He is also a sessional lecturer at Wits School of Governance in South Africa. Taku holds a PhD and Masters in Sociology from Rhodes University (South Africa); Bachelor’s and Honours degrees from Fort Hare University (South Africa); PostGraduate Diploma in M&E from Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He is currently finishing a Master’s in Public Health at University of Pretoria (South Africa).
