Alonso is an evaluation specialist with experience in social development policy and Monitoring and evaluation systems. He is currently working as an independent consultant with the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) in projects related to the design & implementation of M&E systems. He has also worked with The World Bank Group, FAO, and IDB, and other organizations in Mexico. He was part of the evaluation team at the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL) from 2014-2020, where he worked in the coordination and preparation of evaluation methodologies and reports. He gained experience to generate evidence, as well as to identify and encourage its use to improve public policies. Understanding the challenges faced to build and institutionalize the Mexican M&E system has allowed him to share and discuss this experience with counterparts from other countries, regions, and organizations around the world to promote the development of their own systems. He has been professor and guest professor in public and private universities in Mexico and participated in different conferences and workshops related to evaluation. Alonso holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and advanced studies in Political Science from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and has completed several courses related to monitoring and evaluation.
