Dustin Schinn is a Regional Climate Change Specialist at UNDP’s Regional Hub for Arab States based in Amman, Jordan, where he works on a new project with the title “SDG-Climate Facility: Climate Action for Human Security”. Dustin joined UNDP from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Washington DC, where he reviewed and advised the design of climate change adaptation initiatives with grants exceeding US$ 300 million. He was also leading the Annual Monitoring Review for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), which focused exclusively on adaptation. Once the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015, Mr. Schinn worked as part of a small team to establish and operationalize a new Capacity-Building Initiative on Transparency, or CBIT, through a dedicated trust fund. While at the GEF, Dustin also provided cross-support to the World Bank where he provided on-the-ground project supervision support in Sudan for several environment and natural resources projects.
Prior to that, Dustin worked at the Green Climate Fund (GCF), where he provided general management support, coordinated experts on the development of the GCF’s business model framework, and advised and assisted the senior manager on Board document preparation. He also has experience at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute on Barro Colorado Island, Panama, and the Northern Rivers Institute in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. He holds a Bachelor of Science from University of Potsdam, Germany, a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University, and has co-authored articles in soil science, hydrology and climate change governance.
